Softball America: 2024 Stanford Regional HQ

Crash Kamon/Softball America

Welcome to Stanford. The Cardinal are trying to make their second straight appearance in Oklahoma City.

Stanford Regional Schedule

Broadcast team: Mike Couzens, Kenzie Fowler
*All times Eastern

  • Friday, May 17
    • Mississippi State 1, Cal State Fullerton 0
      • Sometimes it boils down to who gets the clutch hit. Fullerton had more hits than Mississippi State, you could argue Haley Rainey was better than Aspen Wesley. But the Bulldogs came through when it mattered. Sierra Sacco found Mississippi State’s first hit in the fourth. Then Matalasi Faapito doubled her in. That was the whole Bulldogs offense on Friday. Wesley scattered six hits and held Fullerton to 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
    • No. 8 seed Stanford 8, Saint Mary’s (California) 6
      • Stanford couldn’t have scripted a better start. 7-0 after the two inning and NiJaree Canady could sit for the rest of the night. The Gaels had other plans. Saint Mary’s scored six runs against Regan Krause with a pair of Stanford miscues to help. Canady had to re-enter in the fifth inning to maintain a two-run lead. She did as she finished the night throwing five hitless innings with 10 strikeouts.
  • Saturday, May 18
    • Stanford 2, Mississippi State 1
      • It was another NiJaree Canady gem. The sophomore star didn’t allow her first hit of the postseason until Sierra Sacco ran into a riseball for a solo home run to center. That’s about all the offense. The Bulldogs never had a runner in scoring position. Canady only allowed three hits and struck out 13. The Stanford freshmen Jade Berry and Ava Gall provided the runs. Berry had an RBI double and Gall lifted a solo home run.
    • Cal State Fullerton 6, Saint Mary’s 1 (Saint Mary’s eliminated)
      • The Titans build a six-run lead through the first three innings. Fullerton cruised from there. Jessi Alcala led the team with two RBIs and caught a great game from Staci Chambers. Chambers struck out seven and held Saint Mary’s to four hits.
    • Cal State Fullerton 7, Mississippi State 0 (Mississippi State eliminated)
      • A seven-run fifth inning capped the Titans’ victory over a tough Bulldogs squad. Megan Delgadillo started the rally, and Colby McClinton finished it with a grand slam to deep left field, putting the Titans up 7-0. Haley Rainey tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out four. Fullerton’s defense was on point, turning two double plays.
  • Sunday, May 19
    • Cal State Fullerton 8, Stanford 1
      • Megan Delgadillo was a problem for Stanford. She finished the day 3-for-3, reached on a walk and drove in a run. It was part of five straight base hits that led to a three-run inning that helped change the game. Stanford tried to respond with two runners on and the heart of the order up. Haley Rainey retired the next three batters with a strikeout of Ava Gall to end the threat. She pitched five innings in relief. Stanford didn’t use NiJaree Canady in the loss but will have the ace in the win-or-go-home game.
    • Stanford 4, Cal State Fullerton 2 (Stanford advances to Super Regionals)
      • The Stanford offense had to step up. The Cardinal were behind the eight ball after Jessi Alcala tripled in a run and came in to score on an error in the second. NiJaree Canady needed help to get Stanford to a third straight Super Regional. Taryn Kern sparked a four-run third inning with a triple that Kate Verhoef couldn’t capture in right field. Kern beat an errant throw home. Aly Kaneshiro doubled in a pair and River Mahler singled in Kaneshiro. Canady only allowed two hits the rest of the way and finished the game with 13 strikeouts.
